Former Wildcat Chad Prain on Brooks Wallace Watch List

ATLANTA — Georgia State shortstop Chad Prain, one of the nation’s leading hitters and the catalyst for the Panthers’ prolific offense, has been named to the first Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award Watch List of the 2013 season.

The Brooks Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented during the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 29 in Lubbock, Texas.

A junior from Valdosta, Prain is batting .414 with two home runs, 13 doubles, one triple and 41 runs batted in.

He spent several weeks as the NCAA leader in hits and batting average and stands among the top 10 of all hitters in the nation. He also ranks among the national leaders with 41 RBI, and he is 13-for-15 on stolen bases.

“I’m thrilled to see Chad Prain receive this very deserving recognition,” said GSU head coach Greg Frady. “Not only has he been an amazingly productive hitter, but he brings so much to our team with his work ethic, his energy and his enthusiasm. He truly sets the pace for us in the way that he plays so hard, and he is always looking to do whatever he can to help his team win.”

With Prain as the leader, Georgia State features one of the nation’s most prolific offenses. The Panthers lead the nation in hits and rank among the NCAA top five in batting average, runs, runs per game and doubles.

Prain has had a 20-game hitting streak this season as well as a streak of 37 straight games of reaching base safely. Prain has also helped the Panthers rank among the national leaders in double plays turned with 45.

Georgia State has won 11 of its last 14 games to stand at 27-16 on the season. Next up for Prain and the Panthers is a Colonial Athletic Association series at Northeastern, Friday through Sunday.
