Colquitt County’s golf teams swept the Region 1-AAAAAA golf tournament Monday at the Valdosta Country Club, despite battling windy and chilly conditions in the early half of the day.
The Lady Packers shot a 230, easily topping Camden County by 15 strokes. The Colquitt County boys shot a 305, beating second place Lowndes by five strokes.
All five of Colquitt County’s boys' golfers broke 80 on the day.
Lowndes’ boys finished second, followed by Coffee (309), Camden County (315), Tift County (316), Valdosta (335) and Brunswick (345).
Camden County’s girls finished second with a 245, followed by Tift County (247), Coffee (297), Lowndes (333), Brunswick (382) and Valdosta (417).
Both Colquitt County teams automatically qualify for the state golf tournament May 20.
The second through fourth place teams, in both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments, qualify for the golf sectional tournament, set to begin May 6.
Colquitt County’s Marin Hanna was the individual lowest medalist for the girls.
Coffee’s Mason Harper was the individual medalist for the boys with a 71.
A pair of Valdosta golfers qualified for the state tournament after shooting the lowest score among individuals from teams that did not qualify for the sectional or state tournaments.
Valdosta’s Morgan Perry shot a 97, but was still the lowest medalist from a non-sectional team, while boys’ star Luukas Alakulppi qualified for state after shooting a 74.
Alakulppi was the second-lowest medalist in the tournament.
Lowndes was led by Tripp Talley, who shot a team-best 72. Bryant Thagard shot a 76, Cole Young 80 and Clay Peters 81.
Alakulppi led Valdosta with his 74. Valdosta’s Tyler Dallas shot a 75.
