The Valdosta Daily Times
NORMAN PARK —
Saturday night racing at Needmore Speedway saw some new faces in victory lane.
That wasn’t the case in the Late Model division, as Valdosta's Gene Ross drove to victory once again, but not without some close competition from Steven Roberts who came in second.
In the Limited Late Model class, it was another win for Cole Exum, with Gene Maine finishing second in the NAPA Auto Parts special.
The Super Street class was a flag-to-flag battle with Zane Johnson finishing first, followed by Chris Cunningham.
As the Hobby division seems to always keep fans on the edge of their seats, Saturday’s main event kept with tradition going with Bubba Howell edging Leon Childs for the checkered flag. Bryanna Vinent took the win in the Enduro class followed by Jordan McDonald and Daniel Thompson.
The Old School Late Model class is still in its infancy with several of the cars still being built, but the Caveman, Lonnie Roberts, outran Timmy Guthrie for the win.
Next weekend race fans will be treated to a double feature racing event as Albany Motor Speedway and Needmore Speedway will stage a two-night Memorial Day weekend of racing with big payouts in the Late Model division, plus cash bonuses.
Saturday night — May 25th — Albany will host the first round of racing before Needmore Speedway hosts Sunday night, for the final showdown of the weekend.
Both nights Late Models will be running for $4,000 to win. Gates open at 4 p.m. Sunday, with racing beginning at 7 p.m.
