Valdosta State Women’s Athletics go on the road

VSU Volleyball swept in Pensacola

VALDOSTA — No. 19 West Florida used a strong defensive effort to defeat Valdosta State 3-0 in Gulf South Conference volleyball action at the UWF Field House Tuesday evening.

The Argonauts (14-4, 8-1) recorded 14 blocks in the game and held VSU (13-5, 6-3) to a minus-.026 hitting percentage in the game.

The Blazers committed more errors than kills in each of the three games and were held without a block.

West Florida started out strong as it hit .312 in the first game while holding Valdosta State to just seven kills, against eight errors, en route to a 25-12 victory.

The Blazers kept the second game closer as they tallied nine kills in the game, but also committed 10 errors on 42 attempts. Meanwhile, UWF had 12 kills as it claimed a 25-16 victory in the game.

The Argonauts closed out the match with a 25-11 victory in the final game, during which it hit .359 with 15 kills against just one error.

Jenna Kirkwood led Valdosta State with eight kills and VSU's only service ace of the night.

Kelsey Hedman and Destiny Berry each tallied five kills while Ashley Lala had 19 assists and 13 digs.

Valdosta State returns to action Friday when it begins play in the West Florida Crossover in Pensacola.

The Blazers will play Eckerd at 12:45 p.m. Eastern and Florida Southern at 5:15 p.m.
