Lowndes, Valdosta soccer teams win matches

VALDOSTA — The Lowndes and Valdosta boys’ soccer teams earned region victories Tuesday night.

Lowndes beat Coffee 2-1 to improve to 5-0 in the region.

Valdosta beat Tift County 3-2 in Valdosta. After falling behind 1-0, Valdosta’s Colin Kirkpatrick received a cross from Doyle Wallace to even the score at 1-1 at halftime.

Early in the second half, Tift County took a 2-1 lead. The Wildcats found a goal with just 10 minutes remaining, coming when Will Campiglia dribbled through three defenders and found Kirkpatrick at the top of the box on a run. Kirkpatrick slid the ball into the back of the net to even the game, which was then decided on a last-minute penalty kick awarded to Valdosta. Senior captain Jamel Armstrong made the PK for Valdosta, which improved to 5-8 overall.

Lowndes is at Perry Friday and Valdosta hosts Thomas County Central Saturday. Lowndes and Valdosta meet in region play Tuesday night at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
