VSU football to host golf tournament

Annual event held April 18-19

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State football team will host its 13th annual fundraising golf tournament April 18-19.

Since the state of Georgia does not financially fund collegiate athletic programs, all proceeds of the two-day event will directly benefit the Valdosta State football program, which has won three Division II national championships since 2004.

The event begins Thursday, April 18, with an auction and bar-b-que at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center on West Hill Ave.

The event will feature an open bar at 5:30 p.m., a bar-b-que dinner at 6:15 p.m., and live auction at 8:30 p.m.

Friday’s portion of the fundraiser will feature the

playing of the 4-man scramble golf tournament at the Valdosta Country Club.

The scramble costs $1,000 per team and spots are still available. The event will begin with registration at 7:45 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Teams competing in the event will be separated into three flights, determined by handicaps.

Sponsorship for the fundraising effort are still available.

Currently, there are six different sponsorship packages, ranging anywhere from $100 to $7,500.

The cheapest sponsorship package is the Player Sponsor, which allows a business or individual to display information in the program at Thursday’s bar-b-que and auction event.

The Tee/Green Sponsor is $200 and includes two days of advertisement for a company, with that company’s name and contact information being displayed in the program at the BBQ/auction.

Sponsors will also receive a name and logo printed on an 18X24-inch sign placed near a green or tee box and will receive two tickets to Thursday night’s event.

The Team Sponsor package is $1,000 and includes a 4-person golf team and four tickets to the BBQ/auction event.

The Lunch Sponsor is $2,000 and sponsors will receive a banner at the lunch following the golf tournament, and six tickets to Thursday’s BBQ/auction event.

The VSU football team is also offering a Cart Sponsor for $2,500 and a Shootout Sponsor for $7,500, the two most expensive sponsorships available for the event.

Cart Sponsors will receive a logo card on all golf carts, eight tickets to the BBQ/auction and one team in Friday’s golf tournament.

Shootout Sponsors will receive a logo on apparel, 15 tickets to the BBQ/auction and two teams in Friday’s tournament.

To register a team for the golf event, to secure a seat at Thursday’s dinner and auction, or to become a sponsor, contact the Valdosta State football office at 229-333-5844.
