ALBANY — Valwood scored on their first possession and never looked back as they cruised to a comfortable 43-7 victory Friday night over Sherwood Christian in Albany, Georgia.

Valwood quarterback Seth Carlo was 12-15 passing for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

Running back Zane Edmondson had 81 yards and a touchdown.

“I am real proud for all the players and coaches. We’ve gotten better each week and really came out of the gate fast again tonight,” said Valiant Head Coach Ashley Henderson.

Receiver Carter Elliot led Valwood in receiving yards with 57 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Ryan White and Eli Carlo each had an interception in the game. The the defense held Sherwood Christian to only 7 points.

“Defense and special teams gave us a short field all night and offensively we were able to get the ball in the end zone a few times,” said Henderson.

It only took eight plays and just under four minutes for Valwood to grab the early 7-0 lead. Using six rushing plays on the drive, Valwood marched down the field and scored on a Zane Edmondson six yard run.

Sherwood's first drive stalled and the Valiants were rewarded with a 35-yard field goal from senior Carter Elliott to push their lead to 10-0 after the first quarter.

Garrett Lovell had a 53-yard punt return when he evaded several would be tacklers. The 2-point conversion was no good. The score was then 16-0.

Valwood’s next score came when running back Marik Merine scampered in on a direct snap from 9 yards out to give Valwood a 23-0 lead with 3:33 left at the half.

On the following possession, junior defensive back Eli Carlo intercepted a pass and returned it to the Sherwood 1-yard line where Merine was able to punch it in two plays later.

Eventually Ahmad Mosely gave Sherwood some life on the ensuing kickoff, returning it 86 yards for a score.

Valwood answered back on its next possession when Carlo hit Elliott for a 27 yard pass with only 1:03 left in the half to extend the lead to 36-7.

Valwood's final score came on its first possession of the second half. After holding Sherwood to a 3-and-out, the Valiants only needed three plays, including an 18-yard pass from Carlo to Merine, to score 43 points to Sherwood Christians 7.
