Former Blazer Brent Witcher qualifies for South Georgia Classic

VALDOSTA — Former Valdosta State golfer Brent Witcher will be in this week's South Georgia Classic field, following a Monday qualifier.

Witcher, who won an event on the eGolf Tour earlier this season, shot a one-round 66 at the Doublegate Country Club in Albany to qualify for the Classic, which begins Thursday at Valdosta's Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

With his qualifying effort, Witcher will make his fourth-ever appearance in the South Georgia Classic. He last played in 2012, making the cut and finishing tied for 30th. He earned $3,812 for the finish. He failed to make the cut in 2009 and 2010.

Witcher was an All-American at Valdosta State and became a declared professional immediately following. He currently lives in Atlanta.

Joining Witcher as automatic qualifiers from the Doublegate are: Dustin Bray (Asheboro, N.C.), Eric Axley (Knoxville, Tenn.), Chris Naegel (Chesterfield, Mo.), Zack Sucher (Mobile, Ala.), Daniel Bowden (Easley, S.C.), Mat Moot (Johnstown, Pa.). The Monday qualifiers from the Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville include: Nick Rousey (Pensacola, Fla.), James Hazen (Miller Place, N.Y.), George Bryan (Chapin, S.C.), SI Woo Kim (Buena Park, Ca.), David Holmes (Knoxville, Tenn.), Ryan Brehm (Mount Pleasant, Mich.), Patrick Wilkes-Krier (Orlando, Fla.).
