NORMAN PARK — In the season opener at Needmore Speedway, Russell Brown Jr. took a page from the movie “Field of Dreams.” Driving cars that his father built, Brown won both the Late Model and Limited Late Model features at Needmore Speedway.
According to Brown, a 34-year driver from Valdosta, he had never won both classes in the same night until last week. In the other divisions, Brian Hansford won the Super Street feature with Zane Johnson finishing second. The Hobby Class saw young Ronnie Lee Newsome hold off his his father, Lee, to win. Wesley Burke took the checkered flag in the Enduro Class, while Lonnie Roberts won the Old School Late Model Division in his brand new car. The open wheel modified Skeeter cars made their first appearance of the season, and although there was just six that started the feature, eventual winner Martin Sapp of Quitman had his hands full with Ronnie Lieupo on his bumper the whole night.
Racing resumes April 20th at Needmore Speedway with a full slate of stock car racing in all six divisions.
