VALDOSTA — Steady rain washed away a busy day of Valdosta sports on Friday as poor conditions called for many games to be rescheduled for a later date.

Residents of Valdosta originally had the choice to take in a baseball game either at Valwood or Valdosta High, but both games were called due to the rain.

The Valiants' game against Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors will be held at the end of the season on May 5, but the Wildcats are hoping to get in their games against the Blue Devils sooner.

With rain forecasted throughout the weekend, Valdosta and Tift have moved Game 1 of its doubleheader to 4 p.m. Monday with the second game to follow.

Valdosta wasn't the only city plagued by rain Friday though, even teams going out of town were affected by the weather.

Valdosta State's men's and women's tennis teams were set to travel to Pensacola, Fla., to take on West Florida, but the matches have been postponed due to the inclement weather.

There is a possibility that the matches with UWF, originally scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, will be made up this weekend, if weather permits.

Updates regarding this weekend's tennis schedule can be found at as they become available.

The Lowndes Vikings were also on the road Friday as the baseball team, along with the boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Moultrie to face the Packers.

Lowndes and Colquitt County baseball will play at 5 p.m. today, weather permitting, while the soccer teams will wait until later in the season to play a make-up game, rescheduling for 6 p.m., April 21.
