Lowndes tennis dominates

VALDOSTA — Lowndes’ tennis team dominated the All-Region 1 teams, with coach Heath Phelps garnering Coach of the Year honors on both the girls’ and boys’ side.

Lowndes' Taylor Vinge and Samuel Price were also named Players of the Year, with Vinge's honor marking the second straight year she was named the region's top player.

The Vikings finished the season 18-3 and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs, while the Vikettes finished with a 20-3 record, advancing to the Class AAAAAA state quarterfinals.

Lowndes’ boys team played three on the First Team, while the girls placed four on the First Team.

Price, the Vikings’ No. 1 singles player, was named First Team, along with No. 2 singles John Fuller and No. 1 doubles Dylan Farmer and Trent Parker.

No. 3 singles Ben Burkhalter and No. 2 doubles Josh Fricker, Zack Ridge and Greg Rasmussen were named to the Second Team.

On the girls’ side, No. 1 singles Taylor Vinge, No. 2 singles Alden Minick, No. 3 singles Emily Singletary and No.1  doubles Lori and Laina Taylor were all named to the First Team.

No. 2 doubles Haley Tubbs and Maggie Wisenbaker were named Honorable Mention.
