VALDOSTA — Berrien’s girls’ tennis team fell to top-ranked Westminster 5-0 in the Class AA state semifinals Tuesday afternoon in Nashville.

The Berrien girls finish their season with a 20-4 record, the most wins of any Class AA school and the most of any public school in the classification.

Berrien finishes the season ranked third in the state and as the highest ranked public high school in AA, as Westminster and Lovett, who will meet for the state championship Saturday in Clayton County, are both private schools.

The Berrien girls’ team featured a combined five freshman and sophmores and just one junior and senior.

“I am proud of this group. They played hard,” head coach Jarrett Luke said. “Westminster, they’re solid. They looked and played like the No. 1-ranked team. But I am proud of my girls. They are young and they played hard, real hard. We had great support from Rebel nation all season and a great turnout today.”
