The Valdosta girls’ track team won the Third Annual Swamp Relays at Ware County High School this past weekend.
The Lady Wildcats recorded 135 points, finishing 40 points ahead of tournament host Ware County. The Cook girls’ team finished fourth with 28 points.
The valdosta boys finished sixth with 63 points, while the Cook boys finished fourth with 43 points.
On the girls’ side, Valdosta’s Stormm Phillips won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Lanetra Edwards finished second in the 800-meter run.
Zakirra McKinnon finished first in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.
Phillips and McKinnon were members of the Lady Wildcats 4X100-meter relay team, along with Takisha Russell and Jalissa Hall.
The Valdosta girls 4X400-meter relay team, comprised of Phillips, Edwards, McKinnon and Destiny Lasane, also finished first.
In the Long Jump, Phillips and Russell finished first and second, respectively.
In the Triple Jump, Cook’s Lakeyda Zackery finished third.
In the boys’ 400-meter dash, Cook’s Tony Jackson finished second and Valdosta’s Yardley Payne finished third, while Josh Norwood of Valdosta finished fifth.
In the boys’ 1600-meter run, Valdosta’s Devonte Cowart and Cook’s Tony Speicher finished second and third, respectively.
Cook’s Justin McCormick finished second in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.
In the boys’ 4X400-meter relay, Valdosta’s Josh Norwood, Payne, Nelson Herring and Timeran Jones finished second.
Nelson also finished second in the Triple Jump. Cook’s Bruce Parham finished third in the Shot Put.
Valdosta and Cook will participate today at Lowndes High School.
