Eight boys and eight girls high school tennis teams will compete in the Viking Invitational this weekend in Valdosta.
The boys’ matches will be held today and Saturday at Valdosta State, while the girls’ matches will be held at McKey Park.
Along with Lowndes, Wayne County, Colquitt County, Tift County, Bainbridge, Thomas County Central, Bleckley County and Norcross will compete in the tournament this year.
Each school will have both its boys and girls teams competing this weekend, and each team will play its preliminary matches today.
If teams are victorious they will advance in the winners bracket, while teams that lose today will play in the losers bracket to decide fifth through eighth place.
Matches today include: Lowndes versus Wayne County (4 p.m.), Colquitt County versus Bainbridge (4 p.m.), Norcross versus Tift County (5:30 p.m.), and Thomas County Central versus Bleckley County. (5:30 p.m.).
The winner of the Lowndes-Wayne County match will face the winner of the Colquitt County-Bainbridge match in the tournament semifinals Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The losers will play at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The winners of the Norcross-Tift County and Thomas County Central-Bleckley County matches will also meet at 10 a.m., with the losers facing off at 8:30 a.m.
The final two undefeated teams in both the girls’ and boys’ brackets will face each other in the tournament championship matches at 1 p.m. The third place match will also be held at 1 p.m.
The fifth place and seventh place matches will be held at 11:30 a.m.
The Bleckley County girls are the reigning Viking Invitational champion. The Colquitt County boys won the tournament last year.
