PENSACOLA, Fla. — Valdosta State’s volleyball team fell to first-place West Florida in four sets on Thursday.

After losing the first set, 25-17, Valdosta State rebounded to win the second set by a nearly equal score, 25-18. West Florida, however, took the final two sets to beat VSU 25-17, 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, and drop the Blazers to 11-6 overall and 4-4 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida improved to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in GSC play.

Nikki McDaniel followed up her .400 attacking percentage against Albany State with a match-high 17-kill performance against West Florida. Tania Tauiliili wasn’t far behind with 16 kills. Ashley Lala had 39 assists with 15 digs. Chelsea Luttfring cleaned the floor for a match-high 26 digs. Krista Bradford and Katie Onushko added 25 combined digs.

West Florida’s first set was its best, as the Argonauts went on to hit a .389 attacking percentage, with just one error. It proved to be too much for VSU, but the Blazers bounced back strong in the second set with 14 kills on 34 attacks.

Tauiliili carried the Blazers in the second set with seven kills and one error on eight total attacks for an outstanding .750 attacking percentage. Onushko and Kelsey Kovar each added three kills in the set.

Unfortunately for VSU, the Blazers could not keep the momentum, falling in the third and fourth sets by a combined seven points.

Valdosta State will look to bounce back against Alabama-Huntsville tonight at 8 p.m. in Huntsville, Ala.
