Valdosta girls win Westover Relays

ALBANY — Valdosta’s girls track team won yet another meet this season.

The VHS girls claimed first place at the 10th annual Westover Relays in Albany on Friday, accumilating 109 team points for the win.

The Valdosta girls will enter this week’s Region 1 track meet in Tifton as the heavy favorites to win a second straight region championship.

Stormm Phillips finished second in the 100-meter dash, while teammate Jalissa Hall finished fifth. Phillips won the 200-meter dash and Hall finished third.

Zakirra Mckinnon finished first in the 100-meter hurdles, winning the race by nearly a second. Mckinnon finished third in the 300-meter hurdles and Destiny Lasane finished fourth.

Hall, Phillips, Mckinnon and Takisha Russell comprised Valdosta’s 4X100-meter relay team, which finished first.

Lasane, Phillips, Mckinnon and Lanetra Edwards comprised Valdosta’s 4X400-meter team and finished second, falling to top-finisher Berkmar by 0.07 seconds.

In the field, Phillips also finished first in the Long Jump.

The Valdosta boys finished fourth in the meet.

Nelson Herring won the 100- and 200-meter dash, and was a member of Valdosta’s 4X100-meter relay team that finished second.

Herring was also a member of the 4X400-meter relay team, which finished third.

In the Triple Jump, Herring finished third.
