Seminoles begin title defense in Arlington

Florida State’s national championship defense begins at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the school announced Wednesday with the unveiling of its 2014 schedule.

The Seminoles, who captured the BCS national championship Jan. 6 with a 34-31 win against Auburn in Pasadena, Calif., will face Oklahoma State on Aug. 30. It will be the Cowboys’ second straight game in Arlington after they finished their 10-3 season in the Cotton Bowl.

Florida State, which will play at Doak Campbell Stadium seven times this year, will play road games at North Carolina State on Sept. 27, Syracuse on Oct. 11, Atlantic Coast Conference newcomer Louisville on Oct. 30 and Nov. 15 at Miami.

The Seminoles’ home slate begins with a visit from The Citadel on Sept. 6 before Clemson visits two weeks later in the ACC opener. FSU’s home schedule also includes an Oct. 18 visit from Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish lost in the 2012 BCS national championship game. It will be the eighth meeting between the storied programs with FSU winning the past two including an 18-14 win in the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl.

Florida State also hosts conference foes Wake Forest on Oct. 4, Virginia on Nov. 8 and Boston College on Nov. 22. The Seminoles then conclude the season with a home game against rival Florida on Nov. 29. Seven of FSU’s opponents played in bowl games this past year.
