Valdosta high senior signs soccer scholarship

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta High Wildcats hosted a scholarship signing ceremony for senior soccer player Dale Fulton Kent on Thursday afternoon in the schools’ Performing Arts Center.

Kent, born on July 19, 1996 in Valdosta, will be attending Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn. on a full soccer scholarship.

Soccer has been a pivotal part of Kent’s life, something he knew he wanted to play for a while.

“I’ve known I wanted to play soccer all my life. I’ve always loved soccer and to be able to play it in college is great,” said Kent.

As a Wildcat, Kent treasured being able to be a leader to his teammates during times of adversity.

“My senior year has been really fun leading the team; having the chance to push everyone to be better. I haven’t been able to play the whole season but overcoming the injury and being to play now is awesome,” said Kent.

As Kent’s senior year comes to a close, he will be preparing for the next step in his journey, becoming a Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldog.

“I’m excited about the team I’ll be playing for. The team is 70 percent international and they’re very good. I think it’ll make me the best soccer player I can be,” said Kent. “I’m excited about where my soccer career will take me in the future.”

Playing soccer for most of his life, Kent was proud to say his parents were a big part of his motivation. In addition to his parents, his club soccer coach helped him tremendously on his journey.

“My coach always has been there for me, looked out for me and pushed me in the right direction, without him, I don’t know how much of this would be possible,” added Kent.
