BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Valdosta State volleyball players Tania Tauiliili and Chelsea Luttfring swept the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week awards. Tauiliili took home offensive honors and Luttfring claimed defensive honors for their work in a three-match home stand.
Tauiliili earned her first honor of the season for her offensive prowess, but she claimed a Defensive Player of the Week award earlier in the season. Tauiliili led VSU in kills (41), service aces (four) and blocks (seven) on the week, while finishing second in attacking percentage and first among all players with more than 20 attacks (.393).
She reached double-digit kills in all three matches for VSU, spearheading a 2-1 record during the stretch. Her best performance came against conference rival North Alabama in which she had 16 kills, five digs and two blocks while hitting .667 in a sweep of UNA.
For the season, Tauiliili is third in blocks (75), fourth in the GSC in attacking percentage (.294), sixth in points per set (3.42) and ninth in kills per set (2.78).
Luttfring brings home her second Defensive Player of the Week honor this season. She did it with at least 14 digs in each of Valdosta State’s three matches for the week. She has maintained that streak over VSU’s last seven outings.
The libero had 15 digs in a loss to Christian Brothers and averaged 4.78 digs per set over the past week.
For the season, Luttfring leads the GSC in total digs (411) and is second in digs per set (4.28).
Tauiliili and Luttfring will lead the Blazers in upcoming home matches against West Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. and West Florida on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
