VALDOSTA — Valdosta State’s football team put on a dominating performance against Gulf South Conference rival and Steel’s Jewelry VSU Student-Athlete of the Week Lance Holder was a big reason why.

And it was Kim Caitlin Alderman who led VSU Soccer with two game-winning goals on the week to earn the female recognition of Steel’s Jewelry VSU Student-Athlete of the Week.

The Blazers beat West Georgia, 42-7, with a strong defensive effort. Holder, a junior safety for the Blazers, snagged VSU’s only two interceptions of the game. The interceptions were the first of his career at Valdosta State.

Holder also picked up four tackles in the game to help the Blazers seal the win. This week, he will lead VSU’s effort against GSC foe North Alabama in Florence, Ala., at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, Alderman paced the Blazers, scoring two goals in three matches.

The freshman midfielder leads the team in game winners with three, so it was no surprise when she tallied two on the week.

She tallied the only scores in VSU’s matches against Alabama-Huntsville and Shorter, two 1-0 victories for VSU. Alderman also led VSU in points for the week with four. Her accomplishments earned her recognition as the GSC’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Alderman will lead Blazer Soccer on a four-match road trip starting with West Alabama at 6 p.m. Friday.
