The Valdosta 5K will be held, for the eighth consecutive year, on Thursday, July 4.
The 5K is a road race that is set to begin at 7:15 a.m. on North Ashley Street, in front of the Winn-Dixie Marketplace. Racers will travel south along Patterson Street to the Talk 92.1 FM Radio Valdosta's studio perched atop the Firm Fitness Center in downtown Valdosta.
The first 25 male and female racers to finish will receive their award in the finish chute. $50 cash awards will be mailed to the Top Overall, Master and Veteran Male and Female.
$25 bonus is also offered to anyone that sets a course record in each division.
Christopher Rice was the first runner to cross the finish line at the Valdosta 5K last year and for the fourth time overall. Rice finished the race at 16:56, nearly 35 seconds ahead of the next fastest runner.

The entry fee is $20 per person through July 3, and will increase to $25 per person on race day. A family discount is available for those interested; Families pay $70 to register through July 3. There is no family discount on race day.
Proceeds from the annual event will benefit the Lowndes Veterans Council. In the past seven years, over $17,000 has been donated to the council.
Runners that register prior to the day of the event and cross the finish line will receive a free T-shirt. Awards will also be given out to the top 25 male and female finishers. The top overall, master and veteran male and female finishers will each receive $50 cash awards through the mail. If a course record is broken within a division, the record-breaking runner will receive a $25 bonus.
