VALDOSTA — Idle since 2011 The Golf Club Of Valdosta will return in 2014 conducting events from January through December.
Organized in 2008 the GCOV is an independent golf organization that promotes the game of golf. Events consist of Amateur golfers twenty one years old and older and seniors fifty years old and older and are conducted January through December.
Membership is available for $25.00 annually but is not required to participate in events. Members can save over $250.00 on entry-fees and are automatically entered in random drawings throughout the year. A two for one membership drive is being conducted in January 2014. New members will receive a sleeve of Titleist golf balls and will be entered in a drawing for free entry to a February event and a dozen Titleist golf balls.
Events will consist of individual and team events with formats consisting of modified stableford, (dog fights) best-ball, match play, scrambles. Events will be conducted on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Thursday night scrambles will begin in March.
All events are conducted and flighted based on an official USGA Handicap allowing players to compete fairly within their handicapped flight. A handicap service will be offered to golfers interested in establishing a handicap. Special qualifiers will be conducted giving players a chance to win a free entry to the 31st annual Golf.Com World Amateur Handicap Championship held in Myrtle Beach South Carolina the last week in August. Winners will be part of a 72 hole event with over 3,000 golfers representing 50 US states and 25 countries and consisting of 70 flights.
