The Valdosta High Wildcats (8-1) basketball team played in the Capital City Classic Friday and Saturday in Tallahassee, Florida. On Friday, the Wildcats took on Rickards High and came away with a 66-63 win. The Wildcats were led by Elliot Ingram, who compiled 27 points for the ‘Cats.
“I think it was a great team win. We were down 21 points at halftime. It showed that our kids were resilient. No one held their head down, and we were able to take the lead in the fourth quarter to win,” said Wildcat Head Coach Antonio Haynes.
On Saturday, the ‘Cats faced off against Lincoln High School and won yet again by 3 points, this time with a score of 59-56.
Team leader Rashad Lewis returned to the team after missing three games with a shoulder injury and led the ‘Cats with 11 points.
“I think it was a big game. We had some kids really step up. We did not play Rashad the whole time, but when he came in, he played well. Anthony Smith worked super hard, and other team members came together and we were able to grind out a win,” said Haynes.
The ‘Cats will practice all week to prepare for the McDonalds Tournament on Friday and Saturday December 27-28 in Tifton.
