Valdosta State’s Delta Chi fraternity will be hosting its first-ever Delta Chi Wiffle Ball Classic on Nov. 17 at the VSU Recreational Fields.
Anyone 14 years old or older is welcome to participate on a team in the tournament, whether they are a VSU student or not.
The cost to play is $50 per team. Teams must have at least five players, and no more than 10. All equipment will be provided.
The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. There will be two divisions, competitive and non-competitive. The top three teams in each division will receive trophies. The first place team in the competitive division will also win a prize.
While the tournament’s organizers hope it will be a fun event, the real purpose for the tournament is to raise money for a charitable organization, Ball Parks 4 Him.
Ball Parks 4 Him is a 501(c)(3) not for profit charitable foundation. According to the foundation’s website, “Our goal is to assist in the financial needs of children ranging in age from 5-18 who have a desire to play sports and have a financial hardship. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to play sports no matter the ability to pay.”
Ball Parks 4 Him has already helped out a number of young athletes. Recently, the organization helped raise money for a 9-year-old boy with a deformed right hand to get a prosthetic glove.
The registration deadline for teams is Nov. 9.
