Lowndes tennis dominates regular season finale

VALDOSTA — The Lowndes tennis teams dominated the regular season finale matches against Brantley County Friday night in Valdosta.  The Vikettes won 5-0, while the Vikings won 5-1. Both teams finished the regular season with 16-2 records and will participate in the Region 1-AAAAAA tournament Thursday at McKey Park in Valdosta. The Vikings will serve as the No. 1 seed in the tournament, with the girls acting as the No. 2 seed. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. Against Brantley County, Nos. 1 and 2 singles Taylor Vinge and Alden Minick each won 6-0, 6-0, while No. 3 singles Emily Singletary won 6-2, 6-3. No. 1 doubles Lori and Laina Taylor won 6-1, 6-1, and No. 2 doubles Haley Tubbs and Maggie Wisenbaker won 6-2, 6-1. Boys’ No. 1 singles Samuel Price won 7-6, 6-4 and No. 2 singles Ben Burkhalter won 7-5, 6-3. No. 1 doubles Dylan Farmer and Trent Parker won 6-0, 6-2. No. 2 doubles Josh Fricker and Zack Ridge won 6-1, 6-3.   Region 1 tourney schedule The Region 1 tournament will be held Thursday at McKey Park. The sixth-seeded Valdosta girls will face Brunswick at 8:30 a.m. The Valdosta boys, the fifth-seed, will face fourth-seed Colquitt County at 10 a.m. The Lowndes boys, the tournament’s top seed, will face the winner of the Colquitt versus Valdosta match. The Lowndes girls, the No. 2 seed, will face either Valdosta, Brunswick or Coffee at 2:30 p.m.
