Valdosta JV edges Lowndes, 1-0

VALDOSTA — Austin Lieupo pitched a shutout and led Valdosta’s junior varsity baseball team to a 1-0 victory over crosstown rival Lowndes on Monday.

Lieupo threw a complete game, held the Vikings to just four hits and struck out seven batters.

Lowndes pitcher Andy Perkins was almost as good. He allowed just one run and six hits in seven innings.

In the bottom of the first, after a single and a walk, Valdosta’s Craig Barry hit a two-out single. David Posas scored on a close play at home plate, and that wound up being the only run of the game.

Brennan Goodson was 2 for 4 for Valdosta. Valdosta is now 14-5 this season. The Wildcats host Tift County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
