The Valdosta YMCA Piranha swim team placed second in its annual Piranha Invitational on Saturday.
The Piranha finished second with 383 points, finishing only behind champion Tift Area, which finished with 599 points.
The Moultrie Sharks finished third with 270 points.
Valdosta had just 24 swimmers entered into the meet — nearly half the team missed due to other obligations — but received dominating performances from high-point finishers Coleman Yates and Madeline Posse to carry the point total.
Yates and Posse were the only two high-point winners from Valdosta, although Jordan Ray was a high-point runner-up.
“I was pleased with our kids,” Piranhas head coach Jeff Corley said. “With the amount of kids we had entered in the meet, we did very well.”
The Piranha are a year around swim program that compete out of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Family YMCA. The Piranha Invitational is the team’s annual home meet.
This year’s meet was one of the largest, with eight teams and around 220 swimmers competing.
The Piranha welcome new members year around. Anyone interested in joining may call the YMCA at 229-244-4646.
