Berrien softball wins region
NASHVILLE — Berrien High’s softball team won the Region 1-AA softball tournament Tuesday, defeating Cook 3-0 and 6-4 in the final two games.
In the first game, Berrien’s Ivy McCranie pitched a one-hit shutout. Megan Lindsay was the winning pitcher in the second game, with McCranie getting the save.
With the win, Berrien earns the region’s top seed in the AA South Sectionals next week. Cook will be the No. 2 seed.

Lowndes falls to Tift
TIFTON — Lowndes High’s softball team dropped its fourth straight Region 1-AAAAA game, losing 2-1 to Tift County on Tuesday.
The loss had no effect on the region standings, so the Vikettes started a freshman, Brittany Britt, on the mound. Britt gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings, striking out seven.
Sarah Santana had two hits and scored Lowndes’ only run on an Abby Agerter fielder’s choice. Morgan Harris and Brittany Corbitt also had two hits.
Lowndes will be the No. 3 seed for the region tournament, which will be played Thursday and Saturday at Freedom Park. The Vikettes (16-12, 7-5 region) will open the tournament against the winner of the Colquitt County-Coffee play-in game at noon Thursday.
