Angels’ Bulger plans to pitch in playoffs

The Associated Press

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Angels reliever Jason Bulger believes his sore right shoulder won’t keep him out of Los Angeles’ playoff series against Boston.

Bulger received a cortisone shot in his shoulder Sunday, one day after leaving a game against Oakland with tightness. He apparently has tendinitis in his biceps.

Bulger planned to throw in the bullpen during Tuesday’s workout before the Angels decide whether he’ll be available this week, but the reliever says he’s “very convinced” he’ll be ready.

Bulger has been a key component of the Angels bullpen this season, going 6-1 with a 3.56 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 65 2-3 innings. He made 64 appearances, often as a setup man for closer Brian Fuentes, the major league saves leader.

Bulger was a star at Valdosta State and a first-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001.
