HOMERVILLE — Clinch County defeated Region 1-A opponent Bacon County 14-7 Friday night at Donald Tison Field.
It took the Clinch County Panthers 33 minutes to take the lead, but when they did they didn’t look back.
Bacon scored first with 9:47 left in the first quarter, as Reid Burkett hit George Jenkins on a 65-yard touchdown pass. The converted extra point gave Bacon a 7-0 lead.
Clinch answered back on the ensuing kick-off as Dominique Ellis ran 70 yards for the kick return touchdown. The extra point missed and the Panthers were down by one, 7-6.
With 2:58 left in the third quarter, the Panthers took the lead for good on a Ronnie Hill 7-yard touchdown run.
Next week, Clinch travels to Calhoun County for 7:30 p.m. game.
Thomasville 28, Cook 0
ADEL — The Thomasville Bulldogs got the best of the Cook Hornets on Friday, winning 28-0. Cook managed just 125 yards passing and 64 yards rushing on the night.
Juwan Smith was the high point for the Hornets. Smith had 83 total yards, 40 passing, eight rushing, and 35 yards on a punt return.

Brooks County 21, Berrien 0
NASHVILLE — The Brooks County Trojans continued to improve Friday night, holding off Berrien, 21-0. Brooks put together 322 yards of total offense, 311 of which came on the ground.
Keith Christopher had 104 yards on 21 carries for the Trojans, while Arlestor McKinnon had 88 yards on 12 carries.

VSU falls to Montevallo
MONTEVALLO, Ala. — Valdosta State’s volleyball team (9-13, 0-5) continues to struggle this season. Friday night, they fell on the road to Montevallo in five games.
VSU won the first two games, each by a score of 30-25, but the Lady Falcons came back and won the final three games, 30-21, 30-17, and 15-13. VSU will face West Alabama today at 1 p.m.

Henderson tourney raises money
VALDOSTA — The fourth annual Doug Henderson III Fund golf tournament and silent auction raised thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer.
The winning team in the golf tournament was the team of Charles Tarpley, Jerry Don Baker, Blake DeCesare and Marty McGhin. Joe Murphy, Ed Rogers, John Hathcock and Paul Fenkbill finished second, followed by John Dennis Wetherington, Steven Hall, Joe Patterson and Danny Knight. David Parker, Dale Parker, Jamie Harris and Ted Welch placed fourth, while Earl Holmes, Carla Holmes, Frankie Gay and Derek Kolitz took fifth. Carla Holmes won the longest drive competition. DeCesare won closest to the pin.
