Lowndes JV hammers Tift County
TIFTON — Kevin Wright and Aaron Winston had two touchdowns apiece, as Lowndes High’s junior varsity football team hammered Tift County 37-7 Thursday at Martin Stadium.
Wright had a pair of 6-yard touchdown runs. Winston returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown, and caught a 73-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Hunter. Hayden Martin had the other touchdown, on a 12-yard run. Joel Burkhalter made all five extra point attempts, and Lee Carter made a tackle in the end zone for a safety. D.J. Coleman and Henry Harden each had an interception.
Lowndes (3-1) travels to Coffee next week.

Lowndes freshmen beat Colquitt, 21-14
VALDOSTA — Troy Braswell scored two touchdowns, leading Lowndes High’s freshman football team to a 21-14 win over Colquitt County Thursday at Martin Stadium.
Braswell returned a punt 48 yards for one score, and ran back a kickoff 80 yards for his second touchdown. Jamie Brooks scored on a 14-yard run. Brooks and Kenneth Durden each had an interception. Jed Solomon made all three extra points.

Valdosta football teams win
VALDOSTA — Valdosta High’s junior varsity football team improved to 4-0 with a 35-6 rout of Coffee Thursday at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
Also, Valdosta Middle’s eighth grade team shut out Hahira Middle 14-0, and the VMS seventh graders beat Hahira 22-0.

Lowndes Middle teams split
VALDOSTA — Lowndes Middle’s seventh grade football team earned a spot in the region championship game with a 24-8 win over Coffee Thursday.
Lowndes (5-1) will face Tift County on Oct. 17 in Tifton.
Mike Moore scored two touchdowns and ran for three two-point conversions in the win. Moore scored on runs of 8 and 53 yards. Elijah Curtis scored Lowndes’ other touchdown, on a 72-yard run.
Lowndes Middle’s eighth grade team lost its season finale, falling 22-14 to Coffee.
The Vikings took a 14-0 lead in the third quarter, only to have Coffee rally for three touchdowns. Josh Harvey scored on a 52-yard run, caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Austin Cook, and ran in a two-point conversion.
