Valwood soccer beats Westfield on Monday

VALDOSTA — Derek Buchman, Ben Peeples and Alex Waldron scored goals, leading Valwood’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Westfield on Monday.

The win was the Valiants’ fourth in five games. Valwood opens the GISA playoffs Saturday against either North Cobb Christian or Pinecrest.

Valwood wins JV golf tournament, Georgia Christian second

CUTHBERT — Valwood’s junior varsity golf team won the region tournament Monday at Randolph County Country Club. The Valiants shot a 168 to finish two strokes ahead of second-place Georgia Christian.

Valwood’s Ajay Patel shot a 37 in the nine-hole tournament and was named to the All-Region team. The Valiants’ other golfers Monday were Jake Lastinger, Michael Joseph, Ronnie Newsome, Logan Johnson and Emily Lovell.

Georgia Christian’s Dowling Armstrong was the tournament’s low medalist, shooting a 36. He was joined on the All-Region team by his brother, Dawson Armstrong, who shot a 38. Davis Armstrong, Quinton Carter and Christian Moore were the other golfers competing for GCS.
