VSU golf seventh at Regional

AUSTIN, Texas – Valdosta State shot a first-round 297 (13-over) and stands seventh after the first round of the NCAA South Regional at the par-71, 6,805-yard Grey Rock Golf Course Monday.
West Florida and Florida Southern led the regional after the first round. Both teams shot a five-under 279. Nova Southeastern shot a 284 to stand third, while North Alabama was in fourth with a 289. Lynn and Barry tied for fifth at 294, while Florida Tech tallied a 302 to finish the day eighth.
VSU’s Brent Witcher tied for eighth on the day, shooting an even-par 71. Nathaniel Balanis tied for 22nd with a 74. Jason Flowers and Cole Willis tied for 31st with a pair of 76s, while Chad Smith shot a 79 to finish the first round 42nd.
The tournament continues with the second round Tuesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
