VALDOSTA — Although voting on ESPLOST V concludes today, that hasn't stopped Altman + Barrett Architects from releasing more renderings of the plans for the new Valdosta High School.
On Thursday, the South Georgia architect firm released the first look at the proposed plan for the new VHS gymnasium.
Altman + Barrett Architects released nine photos showcasing the 'Cats' new multi-level facility that is set to include: a wrestling room, a cheerleading room — each seats up to 200 people — two basketball courts, two weight rooms, one for males and another for females, male and female competitive locker rooms, and male and female P.E. locker rooms.
Valdosta boys basketball coach Antonio Haynes said the renderings he viewed looked, "pretty good," but the most exciting part of the Wildcats’ potential new gym is the 2,600-seat arena.
"There are so many benefits to having a new gym," Haynes said. "The main thing is,
it's somewhere we can add to our fan base, a nice place to play. More fans can attend the game.
"It's a new gym our kids should be excited about."
The first set of Valdosta High School renderings were released Feb. 23 depicting the school's campus and architecture, and Altman + Barrett Architects will continue to release additional renderings.
