  • VSU Students study fungi in Ireland

    Dr. Emily Cantonwine, professor of mycology and plant pathology at Valdosta State University, studies fungal diseases and methods for control. Her findings can be used to determine fungicide effectiveness and to reduce disease development.

    Leaving his hometown of Savannah behind, E. Chad Lawson, 20, arrived at Valdosta State University in August 2011 with a desire to study computer information systems and a passion for photography. No one knew about his artistic talents or his desire to use those talents to help others. As far as anyone was really concerned, he was merely a freshman pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

  • Associate professor explores disease management strategies in peanuts

    According to the National Peanut Board, peanuts are the 12th most valuable cash crop in the nation. In Georgia alone, peanuts account for more than 20 percent of the state’s agricultural income and the peanut industry provides more than 50,000 jobs statewide. Last year, Georgia was said to produce approximately 50 percent of the nation’s peanut supply.

    Matthew Sandoval, 7, spent the week building towers, bridges, castles, and more using LEGO blocks during Valdosta State University Continuing Education's LEGO Junior summer camp. The boys and girls were challenged to use their imaginations as they tackled a number of individual and group projects and competitions.   • UK.jpg VMS students return from 10-day trip to United Kingdom

    A group of 22 Valdosta Middle School students and 4 VMS teachers recently returned from a ten-day Academic Service Learning International Exchange to several locations in the United Kingdom including London.  The trip was the culminating component of an 18-month commitment to the service learning project which they began in January 2012.  Their British counterparts visited Valdosta for 10 days in January 2013.
