PLC Students win Martin Luther King, Jr. Poster/Poem Contest

VALDOSTA — Three PLC students are winners in the 2012-2013 Martin Luther King, Jr. Poster/Poem Contest. Ashley Jones won First place and Summer Stacks won Second Place in the high school level poster contest. Shatima Hicks won Second Place in the high school level poetry contest.

Ashley said her poster, “… represents a great hero and Civil Rights leader.  It is a journey of events. Martin Luther King was determined to change the world and he did.  His dream will live on forever.”

According to Summer, “… my collage is about Dr. King and his family bringing all colors together.  He left this world with a good environment.  If he had not, I do not think Barack Obama would be the president.”

In Shatima’s poem, “The Reason  I Celebrate”, she speaks of her awe at the things Dr. King accomplished  and her pride in being able to celebrate his special day.
