LOWNDES COUNTY — The Lowndes High School Mock Trial team will be continuing on their competition journey following their win this weekend.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, the LHS Mock Trial team traveled to Savannah to compete in the District Championships. In the semi-final round, the team of 21 young ladies and one young man rematched with Lee County. LHS defeated Lee County, as they did during the Region competition.

During the Championship match, LHS went on to defeat Savannah Country Day, five-time defending region champs like Lowndes. The competition against SCD took place in their home courthouse in Chatham County, with every juror ballot favoring LHS.

During the competition, Elena Best and Kim Norton received Best Attorney Awards, Amari Evans received Best Witness awards in both rounds in her courtroom, and Kaylon Day received the Best Witness Award in the Championship round.

As a team, Lowndes earned 25 perfect scores led by Amari Evans, five. Kim Norton earned four as did the entire prosecution team. Elena Best earned three, Cason Green earned two and Kaylon Day, Kylie Mathis, Amber Ryan, Megan Slater, Savannah Pierce and the entire defense team earned one each.

“I am not sure what will happen at the Elite Eight in Lawrenceville on March 15. We will have to compete against Eagles Landing, Bremen, Atlanta International, Westminster Christian, Jonesboro, Paideia and Woodland. We are basiclly the only team south of Atlanta traveling to the other side of Atlanta for the state finals. It will be a tough competition but I know we have the most professional, most dedicated group of young women and men in the tournament and I could not be prouder of how they have represented themselves, LHS and South Georgia,” said Team Coach, Michael White.

Lowndes will now advance to the Elite 8 state finals in Lawrenceville on March 15.
