LHS graduate heading to West Point

VALDOSTA — Congressman Austin Scott (pictured on left)  visited Lowndes High just before graduation to congratulate senior Jadon Long who is headed to West Point.

Jadon was a 2014 Honor Graduate from Lowndes High, graduating as #15 of 663 in his class.  He was in the Advanced Placement (AP) Program and completed eight AP courses.

He was a member of the LHS Cross Country team where he served as co-captain this year and was named the Boys Region Champion.  He was ranked fourteenth at state for the 2013-2014 year, the highest of any male cross country runner in the school's history.

He was enrolled in Air Force ROTC for three years.

Jadon was accepted to West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, Baylor University, University of Miami, Texas A & M, and Georgia Tech.  Congressman Scott noted that Jadon is the only student he has ever seen receive appointments to all 3 military academies.

The West Point Scholarship is worth approximately $450,000, which includes a $206,000 academic scholarship and a track scholarship.

Total scholarships offered to Jadon were valued at approximately $1,669,000.

As a junior, he attended Georgia Boys State, a program of The Georgia Department of the American Legion.

In May he completed the requirements to become an Eagle Scout.  For his project, he built an obstacle course on the LHS campus for the ROTC program.
