Wiregrass Georgia Technical College
Express Employment Professionals awarded a total of $2000 in scholarships to four Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (Wiregrass) students through a donation to the Wiregrass Foundation South. One of the primary criteria of the Express Employment Professionals scholarships was outstanding work ethics. Specific criteria included the ability to work well with coworkers and supervisors, attend as scheduled, and be punctual.
Walter Hobgood, owner of Express Employment Professionals, is a passionate believer in the importance of work ethics and knows their significance in the workplace. He stated, “Most people who lose their jobs do so because of work ethics or soft skills.” These scholarships bring attention to and reward those with excellent work ethics. Bill Slaughter, Wiregrass Foundation Chairperson and CEO of Waller Heating and Air Conditioning, echoed the importance of soft skills and added, “One of the best things about Wiregrass is the work ethics training offered to students.”
Four students were selected to receive scholarships of $500 each for summer semester: Cassidy Foy (Practical Nursing), Miranda Boone (Radiologic Technology), Chandral Brown (Auto Collision Repair), and Brianna Johnson (Networking Specialist). The scholarship will help students with educational expenses such as tuition, books, and supplies.
Dr. Penelope Schmidt, Executive Director for Wiregrass Foundation South, stated, “The College, Foundation, and students are so appreciative of these scholarships. The scholarships not only help the students achieve their educational goals but also help create growth in our local economy by providing a prepared workforce.”
Many people may not realize that state appropriations account for less than half of the College’s funding, making donations from private sources such as individuals and businesses increasingly important. Donations to the Wiregrass Foundation South are tax deductible and provide much-needed support for students and programs.
