Lanier County Hunts for a Cure

LAKELAND — Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement.

During a Relay event, participants and survivors celebrate what they've overcome.  We remember people lost to the disease, and honor people who have fought or are fighting cancer. The event inspires Relay participants to take action against a disease that has taken too much.

This year’s theme, Huntin’ for a Cure, inspired the LCES Team to be “Cure Commanders.”  The team’s site was decorated with duck blinds, duck decoys, burlap, and other Duck Dynasty inspired items. The Cure Commanders held numerous fundraisers throughout the school year to help raise money. Valentine candy grams, CRCT smarties, jean week, and luminary sales helped the team raise more than $1100 toward cancer research.

The Cure Commanders were awarded Survivor’s Favorite and Most Money Raised by a School during the 2014 ceremonies held on April 25th.
