Lowndes schools honor retirees

VALDOSTA — Prior to the May school board meeting, Lowndes County School Superintendent Wes Taylor and the Lowndes Board of Education honored the 2014 retirees in a reception hosted by the Lowndes Education Improvement Foundation.

The 42 retirees represent a total of 785 years of service to Lowndes County Schools.

Each retiree was presented a personally engraved crystal apple.

From Lowndes High School: Karen Croft, registrar, 16 years; J.C. Gardner, custodian, 19 years; Cheryl Colson, teacher, 30 years; Kathryn Jarvis Bass, secretary, 30 years; Larry Odell, teacher, 20 years; John Shelton, teacher, 29 years; Rickey Walker, teacher, 12 years; James Watson, teacher, eight years.

From Clyattville Elementary: Elizabeth Derringer, teacher, five years.

From Dewar Elementary: Sandra Blanchard, teacher, 18 years; Sue Martin, teacher, nine years.

From Hahira Elementary: Patricia Sirmans, paraprofessional, 25 years; Kathy Mederos, speech teacher, 12 years; Ann Northcutt, teacher, 26 years; Lorena Williams, paraprofessional, 11 years; Denese Willis, teacher, 30 years.

From Hahira Middle School: Sharon Lewis, teacher, eight and a half years; Denise McCrary, teacher, 30 years.

From Horizon Academy: Kathy Hodges, SPED coordinator, 30 years; Jan Alberson, teacher, 28.5 years.

From Transportation: Freeman Washington, bus monitor, 11 years; James Dozier, bus driver, 13 years; Angela Howell, bus monitor, 13 years; Donald Williams, bus driver, 10 years; Judy Boykin, bus driver, 37 years; Donna Eason, bus driver, 24 years.

From Lowndes Middle School: Ora Hagins, teacher, 12 years.

From Lake Park Elementary School: Debbie Freeman, teacher, 30 years; Gloria Barr, school nutrition, 10 years; Joan Adams, speech teacher, 17 years; Lani Haddock, paraprofessional, 27 years; Judy Marcus, paraprofessional, 27 years.

From Maintenance: David Drew, 15 years.

From Moulton Branch Elementary: Susan Gail Keel, teacher, 14 years; Shelby Wisenbaker, paraprofessional, 23 years.

From Pine Grove Elementary: Jackie Williams, counselor, 20 years; Marilyn Bechler, art teacher, 16 years; Susan Middleton, teacher, 25 years.

From Pine Grove Middle: Andy Harrison, ag teacher, 13 years.

From Parker Mathis Learning Center: Michael Hattaway, teacher, six years.

From Westside Elementary: Carol Studstill, teacher, 16 years.

From Central Office: Troy Davis, assistant superintendent, nine years.
