Sandra Sheppard is Chosen as Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s GOAL Winner

, D.C. — Sandra Sheppard has been selected as the 2013 Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner.  Sheppard is a student in the Business Administrative Technology program and was nominated by her instructor, Christi Fletcher, Business Administrative Technology Instructor.

Dr. Ray Perren, WGTC President, made the announcement at a luncheon for the four GOAL finalists following the final interviews on Wednesday, January 16.

Sheppard was chosen by a panel of local community leaders from across the 11 counties WGTC serves. She was one of the final four who competed for the title. The runners-up were Heather Wilson, Drafting Design Technology; Candace Dean, Early Childhood Care and Education; and Doyle Dean, Auto Collision Repair.

GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia, honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students. Local GOAL winners are selected at each of the state’s 25 technical colleges as well as one Board of Regents college with a technical education division.

Sheppard will now proceed to regional judging in February.  All college GOAL winners will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Atlanta for two days in April.  Nine finalists, three regional finalists from the three regions, will be announced while in Atlanta and if chosen, she will compete with the other eight GOAL finalists from the other state technical college campuses.  A panel of leaders from the business, industry and government sectors will interview them and choose one to be the 2013 state GOAL winner and the recipient of the GOAL medallion.

The grand prize also includes a new car, courtesy of Chevrolet, the statewide corporate sponsor of the GOAL program.

Sheppard shared this about being named the 2013 GOAL winner for Wiregrass, "I was totally surprised and I feel truly blessed and deeply humbled. I have already learned so much from this experience and it has allowed me to meet some really great people. I am tremendously grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to representing Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.”
