Pay attention all residents of Lowndes County (including the cities). We voted for SPLOST, now they are raising our taxes anyway, instead of cutting back wasteful spending. Now it appears that the school board is joining in on wasting our tax money by raising the school tax for all residents. I suggest everyone start becoming an educated voter and find out what your candidate stands for before you cast your vote.

This is about the ranter on redirecting Ashley and Patterson Street traffic. I have seen too many near misses (hits) on these streets due to people having to wait numerous light changes in order to make a left turn and just gunning it.

Why is this newspaper afraid of criticism of VSU? The sham, snake oil presentation which occurred on the tax dollar of Georgia citizens last Saturday night was not an “educational event.” It was a sales presentation from a non medical person ...

Pit Bulls should in no way be considered appropriate as pets. They were bred for blood sport, which is illegal, and should be eliminated. There have been too many reported incidents of the dangerous, violent, and aggressive nature of this dog. They have been known to turn on their owners and innocent bystanders without provocation. When will the owners listen?

Is it now standard policy for Lowndes County dispatch to do nothing about a possible tragedy until after it occurs? I reported a bicycle rider with a male, non-neutered Pit Bull running loose with him — a violation of the city leash law — and was told I have to call animal control. I called animal control and got a recording to call another line if it was a emergency. I called that number and got the same person and the same run-around. I guess it will take this dog mauling a child to get any response from officials. I’m taking this to the next Lowndes County Commission and Valdosta City Council meetings.

There have been numerous wrecks since the city removed the turn arrows from Ashley going south and Patterson going north. Either put them back or make these streets one way.

I'm so disappointed with this town! No where to breastfeed a newborn anywhere! Can’t even go to the mall and find a place to breastfeed. Come on Valdosta, get with the program! Offer areas for moms to be able to feed their babies out in public! It’s a shame you can travel to Gainesville, Fla., and everywhere you go offers private areas to breastfeed.

Yes, Mr. Mayor, most taxpayers know they are paying county property taxes. In fact, taxpayers think that all the taxes are from the county since the bill came from the Lowndes County tax commissioner. They don’t see the state, city and school board amounts. If they live in Valdosta, they don’t realize that school taxes are over 50 percent of the taxes.

The ranter is correct. When Hillary Clinton runs for president the race card will not be played. But you can bet that the gender card will certainly be played.

One of my favorite sayings from Army days was, “pole vaulting over mouse (droppings).” Which defined those making a big deal out of nothing. But recently I heard a better quote that describes what happens when everyone is doing the pole vaulting. “The grievance culture of the chronically unhappy has become like a rat that won’t stop gnawing.” Turn off the Internet, and some nut-case negative TV shows, look around, this is America and it’s pretty good! Go volunteer, change some of the things you keep complaining about!
