Having to pay for maternity benefits that you may never use under the Obamacare plan isn't a new concept. I don't have a child in the public school system but I am paying for other people's children to go to public schools.

I can't believe we have to accept a gas pipeline. We don't want one. This is a democracy, not a corporate wild west. Residents in Texas had a gas pipeline explosion Thursday and still can't go home. Lowndes County Commissioners, listen to the people. We say no to a pipeline.

A big rave to the City of Valdosta for the Gornto cut through. It is just wonderful. Thank you so much!

The Affordable Care Act, including its mandate to buy insurance, was conceived by the conservative Heritage Foundation as a Republican alternative to HillaryCare, part of Bob Dole’s presidential platform, and it was implemented by then-Gov. Romney in Massachusetts. Only when Obama and Democrats picked up the proposal as their own did Republicans begin to demonize their own plan as socialism.

Spitting tobacco and other nasty habits are the result of poor upbringing by the parents. If the adults in the family don’t care or correct the bad behavior, then why should the kids change those kinds of habits? It all starts at home, folks.

Yep, just as I figured, the City Engineering opened Williams Street from the Wildcat stadium to College Street the day after the last game of the season. Great timing, guys. Now you can start work on some of the roads leading to the mall just in time to tie up the traffic for the holidays. Go ahead. Gornto, Baytree and St. Augustine would be great places to start a road improvement project.

Kids who are bullies at school won't be punished because the school is afraid of a lawsuit by the bullies' parents. Is that a good reason not to punish somebody? Absolutely not, but that's the world we live in nowadays. It seems like the people who commit the crimes have more rights than the victims. That is so sad.

Kudos to the folks at the new Publix.

The breakdown of the American family is never more apparent than when you go into a restaurant and see every family on their smart phones rather than engaging in conversation about the events of the day. Those who should be the most important people in your life are shown where they really are in your list of priorities.

Tailgating is outrageous in Valdosta. I’m going the speed limit no matter how much you push, and if you hit me from behind, it’s your fault. Lawsuit time.
