Rant & Raves for Friday, November 9, 2012

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — I feel the commissioners have sold us down the pike — taken away a convenience and plopped a provider in our laps that we may not want. I seem to recall raising the fee to $100 looked like the problem solver when implemented but alas, like all forms of government, our commissioners can't budget either. I for one will gladly pay the $150 + we will now be saddled with to keep the sites open and keep the convenience and flexibility they provide.

Congress will begin this week in trying to find a way to deal with the end of the Bush-era tax cuts and the beginning of automatic spending cuts. Since the Senate and the House of Representatives are still bitterly divided, this should be a really interesting next few months in Washington, D.C.

Congratulations, President Obama, on winning re-election. Now, in these next four years, please don't try and blame Bush for the condition that the country is presently in. You've been in charge for the last four years and it's about time that you start taking responsibility for some (or all) of this mess.

OK, it's over. Candidates, supporters, if you felt it was necessary to put up campaign signs, it now is your obligation to remove them ASAP. The signs are now an eyesore.

Oh no you didn't... I am already thankful for everything I have and I am thankful that I have a job and can pay my own electric bill so don't worry if I have my Christmas lights on already. They will be up until February, so be thankful for that.

I agree with the person who said employees are being more and more rude. It seems like everywhere I go they treat me like an intruder. Guess what, I do go somewhere else and never go back to that place of business again. They do not have anything I can't live without or can get somewhere else.

Since when does a church need tons of money to "live out its mission in the sinful world"? Oh yeah, since its mission has begun to be building bigger and bigger buildings, with more and more professional staff making huge salaries.

Regarding the churches and money. I see churches asking for money for new buildings, higher salaries for their pastors, very little for missions. They ask for a tithe, then they ask for money over and above the tithe for the new building. They badger you, they send letters asking for pledges. They make you feel guilty for needing to take care of your family. After 50 years, I'm out.
