VALDOSTA — How can people complain about Obamacare and not over the charter "business”? If you are referring to the charter schools, the difference is the charter schools was put on a ballot and the public could vote for or against it. Obamacare is being forced on us. My question is, do you vote? If yes, you should know what was on the ballot.

From reading the paper, watching the news and talking to local people, it is apparent the rain is going to cause flooding. Everyone seems to understand this is going to cause more raw sewage spills into the Withlacoochee River except our mayor and city manager, who seem to use the rain as an excuse for past decisions.

Lowndes County Schools maintenance department will be cleaning off their trucks this week and turning them in and reporting to the school they need to work in using their personal vehicles as a way to save money. Is Lowndes County schools really saving money by doing away with maintenance vehicles?

Echols  County citizens, you have a chance to  help do away with the garbage tax at a called meeting Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Commissioners Office at 6 p.m.

Sure wish the county would take time to mow the grass off of Madison Highway, and Inner Perimeter Road. It's becoming an eye sore.

How much SPLOST money is being wasted by the county commisioners in an effort to put Deep South out of business? When are they going to leave these people alone?

Of course the USDA is pushing the free lunch program —it’s all part of the liberal Obama handout agenda. If you can afford to go to Walmart and fill two carts full of groceries on my tax dollars, you can afford school lunches. You made them, you feed them.

How in the world could any pastor allow men to play on their church softball teams at Freedom Park and almost the whole team doesn’t go to church there or anywhere? Isn’t that against the rules?

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.
