Raves for Wednesday, November 6, 2013

VALDOSTA — Editor’s Note: In 2013, Wednesdays will be  rave-only days. Thank you to our readers for your support.

Thanks to all the people at the cystic fibrosis event last Saturday. Wild  Adventures did a super job of hosting the event. The children loved seeing and interacting with the animals.

The people in Old Wood Valley certainly appreciate its carriers. This  morning, it was here by 5:15 a.m. Thank you!

A big rave to Kelly and Jessica at Factor X fitness. They are always very polite and friendly in the mornings. They also seem to love their job and the kids.

Beautiful singing by the Morningside youth choir at the circus! We greatly enjoyed!

A big “thank you” to the three gentlemen that helped our daughter when her car overheated on Thursday at Murphy’s on Perimeter Road. We appreciate your kindness!

Raves to the Outlets at Lake Park for the Halloween for Hunger event. My children loved it ...

Rave for Sam’s employee. Thank you to the young man who helped me get my water into my car on Halloween. I did not get your name, but I want you to know that I appreciate your kindness.

A special thank you to the Lowndes County deputies that came to my home Sunday morning when someone was trying to break in. Due to your quick response time, the guy was apprehended. Again thanks and may God bless each and every one of you.

I am so blessed by participating in the choir at First United Methodist Church. Thank you, Lester, Cindy, Linda and soloists.

My wife and I love the new Woodrow Wilson extension to Gornto. Great job, city!

Thanks to Krista, the X-ray tech at South Georgia Medical Center that treated me with such compassion during my X-ray exam. Her sweet smile brightened my day, even though I was not feeling well. They should hire more people like her!

Thank you to my commissioner for personally talking to me about the upcoming SPLOST vote.

My husband and I went to Red Lobster on Friday  to celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary. When we finished eating, our waitress told us the couple sitting next to us  paid for our bill. We were overwhelmed and you helped to make our day. May God bless you!

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.

Thomas Jefferson said that we don't keep and bear fire arms for any other reason than to protect ourselves from tyrannical government action. That is why the liberals are trying to suppress Christians’ freedom of speech and why the government is trying to label gun ownership as a bad idea.
