Raves for Wednesday, October 2, 2013

VALDOSTA —  Editor’s Note: In 2013, Wednesdays will be  rave-only days. Thank you to our readers for your support.

We wish to send a grateful praise for the gentleman who paid for our Sunday dinner at Miller's BBQ. This kind person must have overheard us tell an acquaintance at a nearby table we were celebrating our 57th wedding anniversary, so thank you, kind sir, for your caring gesture. May God richly bless you.

Thank you to Thomas Auto owner Donnie Thomas. A Christian who walks the walk he talks. All businessmen should live so right with God in conducting their profession.

A big thanks to Mary at Office Max. She did an awesome job on the order. Mary offered great customer service and was so courteous, not to mention, patient through the entire process which is hard to find these days. Thanks again, Mary!

Just wanted to say thank you very much to Langdale Ford. It is a great thing you did for the local schools. I went and drove for my daughter. All of your employees were very nice. I enjoyed the time I spent there. Thanks again.

Hats off to the Chicken Hut in Quitman. We went in on Friday night and everything was great.  The waiter, Mattie was great. She made sure the  order was correct, chatted with us and everything was good. Thanks for opening in Quitman.

On my first visit to Lowe’s I was so impressed by the kindness I received from their employees. Everyone was so helpful and nice. I will definitely go back. Special thanks to John, flooring guy, and the very helpful cashier. You are great!

I ran in the Get a Mammy 5K this weekend and wanted to thank the guy that was running opposite (not in the race) of everyone giving out high fives and encouragement to all the runners. It gave me a boost right there at the end of my run. Thanks!

I would like to commend Lynn at Southern Ops Investigations for the caring and sincere concern she showed me during my consultation. Thank you! It is really appreciated.

Thank you to the nice person in the Chick-fil-A drive through for buying my lunch. You have no idea what a bad day I was having and that gesture totally turned it around. Thank you!

How in the world could any pastor allow men to play on their church softball teams at Freedom Park and almost the whole team doesn’t go to church there or anywhere? Isn’t that against the rules?

Thank you, Mayor Gayle, for hitting the nail on the head about lack of funding to repair the Wastewater Treatment Plant. When citizens vote against raising revenue, then the only alternative is to increase water/sewer rates. Mayor Gayle, we appreciate that you care for our city’s elderly and those on fixed incomes who can’t afford a doubling or tripling of their water/sewer bills. SPLOST is funded by out-of-town sales tax, and protects the most financially vulnerable of our citizens.

We don’t need Muslims flying airplanes around South Georgia. That is asking for trouble.

I was appalled to see where the mayor blamed the current administration for not providing grants to fix the sewage problem because “we voted wrong.” These problems didn’t begin in 2009, they have existed all along every time the water flow exceeded the ability of the plant to contain flooding issues. My question would be how many grants were awarded for the necessary repairs when “we voted right”? Why hasn’t the problem been solved already?

If zoning is there to protect the businesses and residents who are already there, why is the Lake Park elected officials wanting to approve a change that does not benefit the people who are already there? Shame on Lake Park mayor and council.

Valdosta Daily Times, you have done a remarkable job in keeping our community posted about the waste treatment situation. Please look into our gasoline crisis situation. I just returned from Florida where I bought gasoline 20 cents per gallon cheaper than what is being charged in Valdosta. Something is wrong with this picture.

I want to thank Brittney who has been my family’s favorite waitress at Cheddar’s since they opened their doors. Saturday night was no exception. She never lost her composure while I witnessed some crude treatment from the customers seated near us. Keep your head up.

VDT, please refrain from posting gun control comments. My son and I were at breakfast and he mentioned the low price of assault rifles at a gun show. I said that I was opposed to these. Two fellows overheard this and on their way out, the larger one said that I sounded like some the "communists" writing against America in the newspaper. He said that if were up to him I would be “lined up.” He got into a dilapidated Dodge pickup with anti-Obama, pro NRA, and a Baptist Church bumper sticker.

It wasn’t  Remerton where  the rats were escaping to Azalea Drive, it was  from the raw sewage. At least  they are smarter than people.
