Rant & Rave for Monday, Aug. 26, 2013

The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — Get ready, Lowndes Vikings. Rush and his boys are coming soon. It's going to be different this year!

Parents and relatives please refrain from letting children play with the hand sanitizers at the hospitals and doctors’ offices. They can't be put out of reach, because handicap persons in wheelchairs must be able to reach them as well. Overuse makes a mess on the floor and could cause someone to slip and fall.

As a taxpayer, I’d like to know what we’re getting for all the tax money going to the Industrial Authority? Any new jobs or industry the last few years? I do see they are spending $500,000 to $1 million for new "headquarters" when the prior location was just fine.

Can anyone explain why the President had to comment on the Trayvon Martin case but, so far, has been silent about the Australian college kid killed by the three young black men because they were "bored" and wanted to see what is like to "kill someone”? And where is the same outrage in the media?

SPLOST can only be spent on the capital improvements listed on the SPLOST referendum. No government can use it for any operating expense. State law requires the SPLOST funds, which must be kept separated by bank account and fund, be audited and for the auditor to provide a separate opinion letter that the funds were spent properly. If there is any improper use, the auditor will note that and the funds will have to be paid back to the SPLOST fund.

I see in the VDT this morning that under the Affordable Care Act many, many rural hospitals may be forced to close. Thank you, Mr. Obama, you will go down in history as being responsible for the deaths of more Americans than all of our enemies combined throughout our history.

Why not provide free meals to the children in the public schools? This surplus food sits in warehouses, waiting on disasters and other times of need. Do you know how much of our farm surplus rots away each year? It often goes to foreign countries suffering need. As a so-called Judeo-Christian nation, we sure do spout a lot of hate!

When is the Lowndes Superintendent's office going to stop all the school swapping? My child's classroom at Lowndes High is bursting at the seams. Yet every day I drop her off, I see folks that I know live in the city dropping their child off. What gives? I would bet 10 percent of the students in Lowndes School system live in town. It's not fair to our kids.
