The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — Excuse me, but if America had stricter laws and punishments as other countries we wouldn't need to arm ourselves. If you want people to be unarmed then I propose you implement responsibility and discipline in homes and schools; there would be a lot less crime. Another area that needs work would be entertainment as well as television. I would also propose we put the National Guard in all cities to cut down on gangs and violence.

I smell something even worse than the Withlacoochee River. A big tax increase to help pay for all the lawsuits. Someone needs to pay for this and it isn't the citizens of Lowndes County.

And the ranter said: “Republicans, historically and ideologically have always preferred profits over environmental protection." Environmental Protection Agency signed into law by Nixon, a Republican. National Parks Service created by Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican, who then put hundreds of millions of federal land under protection.

I am no expert on rats and mice but might not the problems reported about them recently be related to the rain and temperature rather than the old mill being removed? Rats, like politicians, got to eat and procreate.

I have tried to explain the American love affair with firearms, to Europeans, Asians, Australians and New Zealanders. I review the history, the prevailing culture, and the ingrained worth of lethal weapons. They think we're crazy, lawless, and violent.

I agree with the firefighter also. We the voters of this community need to look into how much the city council and mayor get paid just to meet and maybe show up to an event. Look at the job postings on the city website and the salaries listed then look at what council makes. Must be nice to be able to vote your own salary.

The failure of our educational system becomes glaringly obvious when reading posts on the Rant & Rave.

People who won't go into a business where concealed weapons can be carried into are absolutely ridiculous. My husband takes a gun any where he goes. Next time we're in the mall and a lunatic (who I am 100 percent positive will not have a carry permit) starts unloading in the food court, like has been happening way too much recently, let me know who you are and I'll be sure to tell my husband not to defend you since you don't think he should be allowed to responsibly carry.
